The Road to Tinkerbell: Costume Completed!

Ariel the Little Mermaid Running Costume

Running through Epcot.

Back in February, I ran the Disney Princess Half Marathon in Orlando, dressed as Ariel the Little Mermaid. Planning that costume took months — multiple attempts at making just the right clamshell top, hours spent scouring the internet for the exact shades of tulle to match her mermaid tail, practice runs to make sure the costume could hold up to 13.1 miles, glitter everywhere. I even dyed my hair cartoon red. (I thought I was going a little overboard, until I got to Orlando and saw some of the other running outfits. Very impressive.)

For my second RunDisney event — the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in Disneyland, taking place in January 2014 — I wanted to keep it simple. Since the run is themed around Tink and the rest of the characters from Peter Pan, I’m going to run as Mr. Smee — Captain Hook’s first mate.

My costume elements include: a blue-and-white striped top from Winners, a pair of blue running shorts by UnderArmour, and a red BondiBand. I’ve already got the glasses.

Mr. Smee costume ideaOf course, the run is still eight months away, registration hasn’t even opened yet and there’s a damn good chance that it might sell out before I can sign up. Fingers crossed.
