Join the Fabulous Fartleks!

For my July race, I’m putting together a team to run (or walk, if that’s your preference) the 5K at the Vancouver Pride Run and Walk.

Pride Walk and RunTaking place Saturday, July 27 in Stanley Park (click for the course map), the annual event is organized by Vancouver Frontrunners, whose mission is to “provide a safe and friendly environment for the LGBT community and their friends to enjoy running and walking.”

The race registration fee is $30; proceeds benefit Out on Screen.

But what’s a fartlek? Aside from being a funny word to say, fartlek is a running term (from the Swedish word for ‘speed play’) that refers to alternating intense activity with slower-paced running. Unlike traditional interval training, which usually has a pre-determined schedule, fartlek training is unstructured. It’s free-flowing, with an emphasis on getting to know your own capabilities, pushing your limits and increasing mind-body awareness.

Come join the Fabulous Fartleks on July 27 in Stanley Park.
