93 Days to Sochi 2014!

Sure, a “100 Days to Go” post would have been more traditional, but a surprise birthday gift of a last-minute weekend trip to Las Vegas distracted me. Oh well.

Last week was full of various events and celebrations to mark the 100 days countdown to the opening of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The official Canadian broadcaster — CBC — introduced their broadcast team and the Canadian Olympic Committee unveiled the athlete uniforms.

Here in Vancouver, CBC News had a live feed from the Olympic Cauldron at Jack Poole Plaza, and guess who was interviewed about volunteering in Sochi?

CBC-BroadcastOver in Russia, the organizing committee released the first look at the volunteer uniforms:

So that’s what I’ll be wearing for three weeks in February. Various media (*cough* British press *cough*) are already slamming the design, but I like them.

With less than 100 days to go, I’m continuing to work my way through the volunteer training materials and online quizzes — initially failing the tests on Paralympic Games and security, but I’m blaming that on poor translation. My flights are now booked, and I’m just waiting on the letter of invitation from the organizing committee so I can submit my visa application.

And then it’s прочь к Сочи!
